I mentioned Squirrels......

T'other day, I said I'd ask my landlord, one Chris Hayes Davis, if he'd mind should I post some of his photographs on the site; he took rather good photos of one of our several red squirrels who visit the garden, systematically empty the bird-feeder, and ransack the hazel nuts.... Well, he agreed and I've sent a few to Dawn: I know one has already been posted on the free photographs section of the site, and I expect the others will be too. So take advantage, and let's see a slew of squirrels on the Gallery.. We watched one of them the other day - as we sat in the conservatory, he or she investigated every plant holder in the vicinity - burying new items, and digging up and consuming one it had buried last week: You look up from your afternoon tea, and this bright orange plume suddenly confronts you, sticking straight up out of a planter - the head follows, he gives you a concentrated stare through the glass to make sure you're not about to rise and chase him off, then goes back to business. On the one occasion Chris did chase him off, or try to, in a desperate and failed attempt to save a few hazel nuts, Red went to the top of a nearby tree and chattered at him furiously - never heard such language! And he still got all the nuts. I've lived here for nearly 13 years now, and haven't tasted a hazel nut once............... Isn't nature wonderful?
