Pastel pencil portrait. Deliberately painted onto dark paper due to the amount of white that would be needed. The appealing feature of the figure was the upper arm which cuts a wonderful curve into the body. The position of the feet was interesting and required careful placement of the shadows to highlight the angles. The main area of clothes has been painted in cream rather than white. This was to allow the use of a bright white for the highlights. The cricket ball, which was travelling down the pitch, would need to be placed off the picture in order to put the correct angle in. I can understand why some people paint dancers etc...there is something so interesting about drawing the figure when they are adopting a different but natural pose
