Art and time management!

When trying to succeed (or perhaps survive) as a professional artist, the biggest challenge to me always seems to be time management. I used to think that when the kids grew up I would have more time on my hands. Well, they have all grown up……but still enjoy long chats on skype or the phone and visiting with friends… and we love being involved in their lives. So not much extra time found there then! I am not sure when I started out that I realised how much I would have to learn about ‘running a business’ and how much time it would take up each week. Alongside learning and improving my skills there is also networking to be done as commissions have to be found, another daily task. Going out and about doing art demos or running art workshops is always great fun even if it is time out of the studio …and I adore writing about art as well, nearly as much as creating the artwork. So…last of all, or at least that is how it feels sometimes, there is the actual art to be done. This is the time that is so precious to me, working in my studio dressed in my ‘scruffies’ enjoying the creative process. Maybe one of these days I might be able to say that I have finally caught up with myself. Would I like to do anything else? Not a chance!
