Martin Butler
Biography
I am an amateur painter in Oxfordshire who specialises in landscapes of places where I live and have travelled to. My works are mostly in oils, but also in pastels and watercolour. I started painting as a child in soft pastels given as a present by an uncle (also an artist). In the 1990s I developed my techniques in pastels, mainly mountain landscapes which was another passion, joining a local art group in Basingstoke. From there I moved into watercolour and then oil. I still work with the group though focus on oils, preferring pallet knifes and large brushes, and drifting towards seascapes - a condition of family life. I often travel with a small watercolour set and postcard pads, which I prefer to use as a base for a larger painting later.
