Christina Hopkinson

Biography

Christina Hopkinson, AGSA, is a watercolour painter based on the Staffordshire/Shropshire border.  In 2001, Christina obtained a Higher National Diploma in Fine Art at Newcastle-under-Lyme College of Art, gaining a distinction. Christina has had experience of working in many different mediums before settling on watercolour as her medium of choice. Watercolour poses constant challenges to the artist and yet, paradoxically, has an amazing ability to paint itself! After many years of painting an eclectic mix of subjects, Christina discovered the joy of painting wildlife and nature, taking inspiration from the many birds seen around the feeder in her garden, waterbirds on rivers and lakes and birds in the wilder places of Florida in the United States. Christina is constantly inspired by what Mother Nature provides as her subject matter and also by looking at the work of many other artists. Colour and light play an enormous part in her work, and she strives to achieve a level of drama using both those elements. More recently, she has been driven to produce work which has a narrative quality, as opposed to straightforward portraiture. Ultimately, Christina’s goal is to achieve a high level of technical proficiency and to be the best that she can be in what she does, developing her own style along the way, whilst encouraging others to discover the delights of painting for themselves. Christina is a member and former trustee of the Association of Animal Artists, an Associate of The Guild Society of Artists, (AGSA), The Wildlife Art Society International and the SAA. At the Association of Animal Artists Spring exhibition in 2017, ‘The Last Lemon’ won the World Wildlife category prize and ‘Precious’ was the runner up in the British Wildlife category. ?Christina was delighted and honoured to receive the 2018  ‘Inaugural Chairman’s Award’ at the Association of Animal Artists Spring exhibition in Frodsham, Cheshire, and also to receive a ‘Highly Commended’ for her watercolour painting ‘There Is Always One’. ?For a full list of exhibitions and awards, please visit my website.
