James is a British artist and teacher offering drawing and painting courses from his atelier in the beautiful Kasteel Sterckshof just outside of Antwerp. Antwerp is the home of Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens and countless others who have inspired many British painters. Artists, such as Reynolds and Turner, have been making pilgrimages to the Low Countries for more than 400 years for inspiration from both the landscape and the great artworks. James, who studied and taught in Italy, now teaches using an approach dating back to the 17th Century. Students stand back from their easels to get a visual impression; training their eye to see and understand proportion, shape and value. Students work on cast drawing, still life and portrait projects in charcoal, pastel and oil.
