Surbiton Arts Group

Surbiton Arts Group

Surbiton Arts Group was established in 1947 and is a friendly and informal group formed to encourage the practice an appreciation of the visual arts, including all forms of painting, drawing, calligraphy and sculpture. We meet twice a month on Monday evenings from 8 till 10 pm from March through to October (except for a Summer break in July and August) and once a month during November, December, January and February in Surbiton Library Annex, Large Hall, for a variety of activities, including demonstrations by practicing artists, lectures from professional art critics, assessment and appreciation of members work, and practical painting and drawing evenings. There is something of interest both for the beginner and experienced artist, everyone is made welcome, there is no entrance examination and we learn from each other. Two exhibitions are held each year in Spring and Autumn, and all members are invited to submit work. Subject to available hanging space, and the right of the committee to reject unsuitable work, up to 9 framed entries are accepted for hanging without selection. 9 unframed entries can also be exhibited in browsers. The increasing high standard achieved has amply justified this open approach, and sales are made from each exhibition. If you are interested in painting or the appreciation of art, why not join us? Visitors and non members are most welcome to attend any of our meetings allowing you to judge for yourself if you would like to join us. The annual subscription fee is £25, which includes both entrance to all group sessions and the right to submit work for exhibitions. The exhibition hanging fee is £1 for framed pictures and 50p for mounted pictures displayed in the browsers, and there is a 20% commission charge on works sold.
