NSArtGroup

The Newton Solney Art Group, founded in 1991, by Roy Freestone, is a group of individuals who share a common interest in art and painting in all forms of media. They are a talented group who meet regularly in the village hall to share their experience. As a group they regularly exhibit their work in the village pub the Unicorn and individual members exhibit at local exhibitions throughout the year. All ages welcome. Many of the group have taken up painting as a pastime to enjoy in their retirement. Some members have a formal art training and others learn from the support of the shared group experience. Members enjoy regular organized visits to important art exhibitions and day trips to places of interest. Many individual members and small groups go on painting holidays to broaden their knowledge. Membership is mainly from Newton Solney and the surrounding areas, but all are welcome. Newton Solney is a small village on the border of South Derbyshire between Repton and Burton upon Trent. It has a long history, stretching back before mediaeval times, and in 873AD Danish invaders, who destroyed the nearby monastery at Repton, used it as a base. Over recent years the pride taken by residents of Newton Solney has been rewarded with prestigious English Tourist Board awards for Best Kept Village and Britain in bloom.
