Newport Art Group, Pembrokeshire

A thriving & friendly group of 40 amateur artists in Pembrokeshire. Monthly meetings in Nevern and Dinas Cross together with annual exhibitions. New members are always very welcome.

The coastal village of Newport, Pembrokeshire (Trefdraeth in Welsh), is a small bustling town flanked by Carningli mountain, the Nevern estuary and coastal beaches.

It is perched in one of the Pembrokeshire National Park's most scenic parts and is loved by both locals and visitors.

Pembrokeshire, although perhaps not as well known for its artists as Cornwall, has the same light and a similar landscape and has been inspiring renowned artists such as Graham Sutherland, John Piper and Ceri Richards for generations.

Newport Art Group started informally in the early 1970s. A group of friends would meet every month in each other's homes, to have an official meeting followed by painting or sketching.

Much as today, ideas were discussed with regard to materials, approaches and exhibitions. Membership was initially limited to 10, later expanding to 12. Interestingly, new members could only join as a vacancy occurred and only by invitation!

Jump forward 50 years and today we are open to all interested artists, subject to our membership limit of 40. We meet regularly, hold workshops and paint-outs, as well as hosting local exhibitions showcasing our work.

Members have a wide skill set, from absolute beginners with no previous experience to members who have been painting for many years.

New members are always welcome, however we sometimes have a waiting list, and if you are interested, or perhaps new to the area, you will receive a warm welcome.
