Dulwich Art Group

Dulwich Art Group

Run by artists for artists these drawing groups allow people of all abilities to just get on with the task of drawing or painting from the nude model. There is no tutoring unless requested. If you’ve been thinking of taking Art Classes these groups may well support or supplement. As with an Art Course there is a sense of progression, not through any outside agency but through regular and honest application and effort. Making a commitment to oneself to draw seriously just once a week can have benefits that reach beyond the immediate image produced. Neural pathways opened up through observation and mark making can suffuse other areas of ones life and work with joy and creativity – drawing brings good things! We have plenty of easels and drawing boards and a small shop if you forget any art materials. (A1 cartridge paper is 20p per sheet for example) The space is large, warm and dry with professional studio lighting. We offer simple refreshments for a nominal £1 donation Whilst we all take our drawing seriously the atmosphere is lively and friendly. Attendees range from students building their portfolios to professional artists and enthusiastic amateurs of all ages. We run three daytime drop-in groups per week throughout the year breaking only for Christmas and Easter weekend. There is no commitment required for drop-in groups you can just turn up without booking. Most artists prefer it that way. We also run ‘learn to draw’ and ‘learn to paint’ courses, ‘plein air’ landscape painting excursions, corporate events and even sensible hen parties.
