Wonderful, full of character.

Colourful and arresting; texture works well - sometimes you're drawn to Chardin's comment, "it doesn't matter what you paint, it's how you paint it"; couldn't be much more true than in this case, could it: washing against a row of houses, with the sea beyond. But you've elevated the subject by your treatment of it - which I suppose is what figurative painting is about, when you get down to the final analysis. I also like your concentration on the East Neuk - reminds me of John McCombs' devotion to the village of Delph and his meticulous recording of its out of the way places, corners and crannies. I'm sure people will search out your paintings in fascination in years to come, not only in their own right as works of art but as a crystallization of a place at a particular point in time.

Great. The texture works really well and I love your colours.

This really appeals to me Walter I like it. Had to sign in to leave a comment.

super image and treatment, great portfolio

Hi Lesley, Robert, Jennifer, Carole and Brian - very many thanks for your kind and insightful comments - they are much appreciated. Happy painting, Walter

Really lovely, Walter, I love the slightly abstract foreground and the houses at the back. Superb tension in the painting that keeps the eye moving around.

What a beautiful addition to your great gallery. Stunning!

For me this is the best in your gallery which I've been watching with interest because i love the East Neuk. It has such life and vibrancy so typical of the blustery little towns. I think Robert has said it all.

Hi Seok Yam Chew, Mia and Diana - many, many thanks for your very kind comments

The painting is about 11x11 inches and was painted mainly with mountboard offcuts of various widths onto a board with some paper tissue applied with PVA glue to give it a bit of texture. W&N artists acrylics used throughout. All C&Cs very welcome.
