This is beautiful, how wonderful to be able to grow the plant and then capture its beauty for posterity. I also like your sunflowers, have just returned from touring in France and there are still some fields of this amazing flower, all heads turned towards the sun. You really capture the 'essence' with your paintings.

Thank you Lesley- I really can't take take credit for the composition- this is exactly as it is placed in my garden... in front of a Clematis and surrounded by ferns and grasses.However I did decide to blend it into the background otherwise I think the whole work would have been just too busy.....I'm hoping it is as good a subject next year- if so I might paint all 3 heads- that WOULD be a challenge !!

September 2011. This amazing flower head was a real inspiration. I planted 3 bulbs in the Spring, not expecting much.. but all 3 flowered with heads like this ...each head lasting weeks.They were almost too heavy for their fairly thin stems. Heavy body Acrylic over thickly textured Gesso on canvas. Size 46 x 62 cms.
