Well done, Thea. I like your delicate use of watercolour. If I may be just a little bit critical, Milly's lower jaw and regular teeth look strangely human. Nonetheless, I like the overall effect.

Like all your other first attempts and "dodgy" paintings, this one came up trumps! It's a lovely piece of work, Thea. She looks gorgeous!

Well done Thea, is there nothing you can't turn your hand to? LOL Hope you're feeling better today. X

As a first attempt this is stunning, Thea. She looks so naturel and lively. Wonderful, well done.

Lovely, Thea. You are going great and happy new year.

Thank you - you are all very kind and generous in your comments. Such an encouragement.

Ah no problem to you Thea

Very good loose portrait Thea. Your loose brushstrokes and blends of colour bring her to life.

How lovely! for a first attempt at animal painting I would be delighted with this, loose and lovely!

Excellent Thea - so very difficult to do in watercolour but Milly looks just gorgeous! Well done.

She's lovely Thea, and if I detect a hint of anthropomorphism its only a token of your affection for her!

Thank you all so much for such nice comments. I was very shaky about attempting a dog, so am glad that it sort of came off. Kim, I know exactly what you mean - grandma's dentures?!! Funnily enough my grandson picked that up straight away - out of the mouths of babes, etc.....

Thank you, Kaye, that is praise in indeed coming from such a master of watercolour as yourself. I appreciate it.

Thea you have captured Milly beautifully...a stunning watercolour. Thank you too for your comments on my painting :-)

Thank you, Julie, for your very kind comments. Milly will be flattered!

This is my very first attempt at an animal portrait. It is of my liver Flat-Coated Retriever, Milly. Bits of it a probably a bit dodgy, but it's a start! Done in watercolour on Langton 300lbs.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
