A recent commission. As an artist, I am always nervous about painting children, particularly very young children as I find it all too easy to make them look older than they actually are and to achieve that 'youthful' skin tone. The reference image for this piece was challenging in so much as it didn't really offer the light and shadow that I typically like to to employ in a human portrait...the light was quite diffuse and the skin quite monotone.
