Lakeland landscape III
Determined to create a mixed media drawing from the top of Haystacks I worked my way to the top. from the shores of Buttermere (see stretching out below in the foreground of the expressive drawing). Keeping things to monochrome (mainly Nitram charcoal) meant I could work fast, travel light - essential at such heights especially in windy changeable weather conditions. I NEEDED TO work as big as I could so we have an expressive en plein air drawing here created at 20 x 22 inches - a size that fits under my arm reasonably comfortably bulldog clipped to a strong wooden drawing board. Having been to haystacks countless times I know there was plenty of rocks to use to stack up one on top of the other to make a platform on which to work so, no need for an easel. I shared my essential water with my art. Nitram liquid charcoal, Royal Talens acrylic ink, Quink ink, Nitram charcoal, Rembrandt pastels - black and white.
