Hardraw Force, Wensleydale, Yorkshire
36" x 24". Hardraw force is located near the village of High Abbotside in Wensleydale in North Yorkshire, England. It is the highest unbroken waterfall in the UK. I was inspired to paint this by the sheer beauty of the setting; not only the waterfall itself but also the way the light shone through the trees and cascaded onto the rocks below. The different seams of rock, especially the red layers, added to the interest of the scene. The water had a brown hue, as it was stained by tannin, and provided interesting reflections of the rocks and waterfall. This painting took several weeks to complete, mainly due to the complexity of the rock formations. Please visit my web site at: www.richardharpum.com
