Hydrangeas in a Glass

Hydrangeas in a Glass

hi pat this is a very nice delicate painting

I like this a lot Pat, the pink tones stand out beautifully against the background and the glass is very well painted.

Thank you Dennis and Christine. The glass has been cut off a bit at the bottom when I took the photo, but I was pleased it looked OK. The flower tones were mainly alizarin, Gamblin brown pink and flake white.plus sometimes a touch of ultra.

The limited palette works very well here, Pat. I love the subtle hues and the transitions of tones that make the petals look so delicate.

This is a small oil painting on linen canvas - a super surface to work on. The flowers are from the garden and the lager glass is normally used for drinking - in hot weather. As it's turned cold this weekend, the painting got finished. Fairly limited palette on this one and didn't take long to paint.Usually, I am a slow painter with several layers of scumbling & glazing usually. This had only two layers and a bit of redefining here and there.
