Need some purple tones at the bottom, I can see that now.

Beautiful colours and light, Marjorie.

Can see the enjoyment Marjorie lovely texture composition and colour with the sunlight as a lovely highlight

Thanks both - just passing the time.

Marjorie it's miles better than any attempt I've made with oil pastels, in fact, it's a very good result when you are new to the medium. I do like how you have described the daffs and the light.

Thanks Fiona - you know, I feel I know your "voice" as well as I know your paintings! But that goes for Dennis and Cesare too.

Lol...I know what you mean Marjorie. All being well, if you make it to Galloway for the Spring Fling, we'll meet up. Hope you won't be too disappointed with my dulcet tones!

Beautiful still life Marjorie

It's so good Marjorie, lovely work.

Great oil pastel painting, with the daffodils standing out against an interesting background. What brand of oil pastels do you find most satisfactory? I want to give them a try but do not like the ones that I bought.

It's lovely Marjorie :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. Sandra, the oil pastels are Sennelier. I'm going to buy some chunkier ones plus a transparent, which helps with blending. I tried a hairdryer on this at first, to soften and it helped. I found that the more pastel I applied, the better it is to work with. I don't use thinners, I find it deadens the colours.

Must be a great feeling to "play" and produce something so lovely. Well done Marjorie.

Never tried them, lovely work

Love the luminous, shimmering quality of this piece, Marjorie. Superb work!

Marjorie, I received the 2017 Jackson's pastel catalogue this morning, it's full of comprehensive and helpful advice, tips and product descriptions. If you're not on their mailing list it may be worth requesting one. Not only does it cover soft pastels, it also covers oil pastels (which I thought might be useful) and their respective supports and applicators etc. After looking through it I'm much more informed, especially about different surfaces.

Thank you very much Henry, Glennis and Seok. Fiona, I'll look out for that catalogue, it might come with my next delivery of LP and The Artist. I've just bought some acrylic inks today for a workshop next Monday - watch this space!

Thank-you Marjorie for your helpful response. Unfortunately it is hard to get Sennelier here in NZ, but will keep your tip about the hairdryer in mind as well as applying the pastels thickly. I shall watch out for your acrylic inks, and enjoy your Monday workshop.

I missed this Marjorie. I really like the impressionist look. Really like the daffodils and mug

Not much blending, playing with colours. Oil pastels, liking them more and more.
