No I don't think it's overdone at all, makes the painting very dramatic and I like the colours down the right hand side, a touch of magic.

I agree with Val, a very dramatic painting, certainly does't look over done or a rescued failure. And as Val says that touch of colour down that side really makes it. It reminds me a bit of Shirley Travena's style of painting.

Thanks Kevin and Val. Re the right hand strip of colour. The whole of the background consisted of those colours until I started painting over it in the darks. As the black colour progressed, I realised that I was perhaps overdoing it and left this strip of colour uncovered. As usual, it's too late now to go back to what it was :) The joy of watercolour!....

They are right, Louise, this is not overdone at all. As Kevin writes: very dramatic and atmospheric. Sorry if I do not post a comment on your last postings, but I was away for 2 weeks (see my Blog "Surprise-party" or "Mia") and missed about 60 pages of postings (a few multiple ones!!).

I agree with the others about it not being over done.....as for the strip of colour on the right; I thought it was a chink in a curtain, giving the viewer a tease of whats behind it?! As for the subject, it's bold and bright against the new background and looks great Louise!

Thanks Mia and Fiona. That strip is now a chink in the curtain! I should have kept quiet about it being an accident! I'd make a terrible salesperson! Yes, it's definately a chink as I'd planned all along :) :)

I agree with everyone, it is not overdone at all. I love the vibrant colours and the dark background

Very striking! I think the addition of the very dark background has actually made the painting as it shows up the whites and blues of the vases in sharp relief and also the lovely red poppies. Just shows that we shouldn't plan too much but just go with the gut reaction as to what is needed. I have to admire you for sticking at it - I give and shove things in the bin when I probably should try harder. Great work, Louise.

Really stands forward with your dark background, eye-catching!

Many thanks, Petra, Thea and Carole

A really charming piece, Louise! Done in your signature original style, with vibrant, lovely colors.

I like this one Louise, diferent yet totally recognisable as a Naimian.

Hi Louise, wanted to comment on this but my pc must be playing up, just couldn't get on the site! I really like this , one as William said different yet recognisable as your own!

Thank you Seok, William and debs. Debs, it's probably not your computer. POL was so slow this morning but it seems a bit better now. It was taking me a couple of minutes to turn a page! Apparantly, they are changing servers (whatever that means!) and things should improve.

I love the black drama in this painting. The vases are on a stage and the curtain is a bit apart and the audience is waiting for the show to begin.

watercolour 39 cm x 54 cm. This is an example of a failed painting that I tried to bring back to life by blocking in most of the background with dark tones. Very dark, almost black! This doesn't always work. Sometimes it adds to the drama and emphasises the subject. I feel that perhaps I've overdone it here :)
