Absolutely love this one Jo!

Really eyecatching. Made me stop browsing to take a closer look.Love the colours.

Love the colours in this one but why a three colour rule? I would have thought that this would shut down your options quite dramatically. I love the looseness and impressionistic feel of this one. What does the RA know anyway. I saw a programme on TV of the selection process and I was appalled at some of the dross they were choosing to exhibit. After seeing that, I would take it as a compliment if they rejected my work!!

Three colours because I find it difficult to see colour and tone .. and easy to make a muddy mess :) I find warm and cold colours clash (for me), and this is less likely if I reduce the number of options. And yes, I agree about RA summer exhibition selection process... hardly a moment to consider each picture.

This was taken from a clip of a tv program about the Spanish Civil War. I was struck by the deserted look, and tried to recreate in my mind using White Knights St. Petersburg bright sticky watercolour paints. It was an early attempt with this media, and I broke my three colour rule ( never again.. I think it jars the painting). The original is framed, and there are several prints of it around... ( not sold, I have never attempted to sell them) . I drew the scene in paint straight onto the paper, and in some places the colour bled as I tried to draw on wet paper. Then, I entered it for the RA summer exhibition, from which it was rejected!
