Originally commissioned at the end of 2013 as a commemorative painting. This painting was created with the aim to depict the spirit of those that serve or who have served in 31 Armoured Engineer Squadron which is illustrated by the unit’s insignia of the lion. This mascot has since been nicknamed ‘Yogi’ by successive serving sappers. The Squadron adopted the lion as its emblem, due to its service to the Sri Lankan nation, whose national flag depicts the Sinhalese Lion representing Sri Lanka’s largest ethnic group. The Lion in the painting also carries the Sinhalese sword or 'Kastane' in its right paw. The painting also depicts the breakout of two of the Squadrons vehicles used in it’s armoured role. The Centurion AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) fitted with 165mm calibre demolition gun, dozer blade and fascine cradle and the Centurion AVLB (Armoured Vehicle Launch Bridge)
