What does the lady artist see here that we cannot?!

This certainly made me ponder Gavin. Her past maybe? It seems positive that she paints the light in the dark, unless she's living in her own world.

Still pondering, perhaps art is her escape from the darkness.

Many thanks for the feedback folks. Collette; you are partly correct. The artist depicted in this painting is withdrawn and depressed (note the sad countenance/expression on her face), she paints at night, preferably under full moon conditions (as shown) to avoid society (which is mostly asleep/not active so as not to disturb her, she shuns human contact). Painting is her only form of pleasure in life, hence the happier/brighter tone of her composition.
