Just the right colours to portray the time of year Fiona. Those trees look very spikey!

Some rather delightful painterly brushstrokes Fiona, excellent colours also. Impressed...

Gosh that was quick Marjorie! The spikes bits are all that the ivy will allow the Ash tree to display I’m afraid. They do look strange at this time of year, I perhaps should have explained that the green of the trees isn’t leaf, it’s ivy. Thanks very much Marjorie.

Thanks Al! Yes it’s been a bit glum and flat today, I tried to use more earthy colours for this kind of light.

A nice composition and colours ,it is a lovely view.Good brushstrokes like Alan said. I like it.

Love the colours you have used Fiona - perfect for a Scottish winter. Works really well.

Love the colours and your spiky trees Fiona.

Thank you very much Annick, Margaret, Sandra and Fiona, appreciate your comments.

I like everything about this, Fiona. The trees, the fields and the sky, and I do like those little splashes of yellow.

like it well Fiona - you obviously spend a lot of time in the kitchen - and I don't blame you with scenery like this to look at.

Ellen you are very kind, thank you. Lol ...... Mike, I try and spend as little time in the kitchen as possible but as you say, it’s impossible to ignore views like this....especially to paint. I’ve done this view many times in all seasons and weather and in different mediums. Thank you for your comment.

Beautiful painting and good brush strokes, Fiona.

What a beautiful view, Fiona. Lovely painting!

I love the early morning atmosphere Fiona, great colour and I love the spiky trees and lush dried grass.

Wow Fiona, I really like this. You’ve captured beautifully that dulling light that’s around at this time of year. There’s a little greenery but most of the landscape is pale and the light weak. Super work!

Lovely description Fiona and you've caught it so well with your painting, 😀

So well painted Fiona..lovely!!

That bleak sky typifies a Scottish winters day Fiona, at least it's not a white vista thankfully though there's still time for that :)

Thank you for your wonderful comments everyone.....very much appreciated.

You have taken to the oils so well Fiona, I find them very difficult. This is a beautiful painting!

Love the way you have treated this Fiona a well resolved painting

Thank you very much Satu and Dennis!

Lovely composition Fiona, and I like the colours you've used. Your spikey trees are super.

Thanks very much Margaret, the trees are quite comical looking at this time of year.

Very nice Fiona, portrays the time of the year perfectly

Thank you David and Val- Irene, for your generous feedback.

This piece was the first thing that caught my eye when I came onto this site today, and I thought, "I wonder if it's Fiona's?" because it had all your signature spontaneity, great brushwork and lovely palette. And loads of atmosphere. And I was right! You have an inimitable style that is truly gorgeous, Fiona!

The greens that are there are lovely Fiona

Seok, what a lovely thing to say, thank you, you are very kind. Karen, thank you very much!

Love it, Fiona, especially the highlighted rough foreground! Spot on that girl!

Thalia, thank you very much!

Wonderful, love everything about this

Thank you Rachel, very much.

16”x12” oil on Arches paper. This was the view from the kitchen window this morning, a bit drab and bleak. The field in the foreground is winter kale at the moment but it would have been too much green, so I’ve roughed it up a bit . Along the tree line runs a burn and at the moment it’s a mix of dead grass, bramble stems and dead cleavers.....looks pale against the darkness of the Ivy laden Ash trees. Either side the Ash trees there is a mix of gorse, holly and other native hedging.
