Love the application of light and the looseness of background creation.

It'searly Sunday morning and since I looked at the gallery last night there have been some great watercolours posted - a great start to the day and this painting is up there with them - superb and very inspiring Margaret.

Beautifully atmospheric

So soft and delicate looking. What lovely washes in this. I would love to know the colours used for this, especially for the sea.

I think it was mainly Winsor and Newton artists' Payne's Gray used very thinly with lots of water. I use W&N artists' Paynes Gray a lot. It's a beautiful rich vibrent indigo blue and very, very useful in lots of ways.

Thank you Margaret. It is very generous of you to tell me your tecnique which works so very well. I'm going to go away and try making my washes as soft as yours. I'm always too heavy handed with Paynes Grey, and with all the other colours come to that :) Thanks once again.

Very difficult to scan this picture successfully owing to the delicacy and subtlety of the colour. The original looks more "misty".
