When I visited Nottingham, they told me that Sherwood forest was not a forest at all, but i,m glad you have reinstated it! Great Trees!

Hi Linda, "forest" is a tricksy word; back in the day it referred to a designated hunting area (usually royal) rather than a big wood. Sherwood Forest is, I believe, one such (as is the New Forest). The Sherwood Forest Country Park (some 20 or so miles north of Nottingham) has wooded areas and heathland. Sherwood is also the name of a suburb of Nottingham.

Oil painting. Based on sketches of a friend sitting in a tree and imagination. Growing up in the east Midlands, Robin Hood was my local legendary hero. I loved the stories. After a recent visit to Sherwood Forest where there were some rather disappointing paintings in the visitor centre, I decided to have a go myself...
