Wonderful colour combinations Alan. I look forward to your article.

This is fantastic Alan, great sense of atmosphere and heat coming from those buildings. Very effective.

This is so beautifully done Alan , I do like the looseness of it . The colours are superb, look forward reading the article.

These ancient buildings do evoke passion and wonder! The loose form of the structure of the chateau and sienna with that hint of pale blue adds atmosphere and the light grey highlights and gives relief from the buildings in a mystical way.

I really like how you've approached this Alan

Beautiful colours, Alan.

Super work Alan. Sounds very interesting!

Interesting combination of media, and a beast of a subject!

Great sketch, Alan, love the colours.

Just beautiful, Alan.

Lovely work Alan. I do love the touch of blue. All works well 🙂

Beautiful Alan- so sensitively portrayed

You make the Turner style of painting/composition/drawing look uninhibited Alan, and I know it isn’t as simple as it might first look. I’m aware the depths that you are delving in to Turner’s style and by this example you are getting excellent results. Look forward to seeing your feature.

Lovely use of colour - looking forward to your article!

Beautifully captured the atmosphere of this great subject- I really like this approach to painting- I will be reading the article with great interest Alan.

Love the warmth radiating from these castles Alan.

Another beautiful sketch Alan - love the little bits of definition.

Thanks guys! Always greatly appreciate your comments!

I like how you've done this Alan and I look forward to reading your feature.

I'm currently studying JMW Turner’s watercolour sketch books for a feature in The Artist, of which almost 300 of these treasures are housed in the Tate - I'm delving into his working practice, paints, hand-made tinted papers etc. For research purposes, I’ll be working from a selection of his sketches that particularly inspire me. These aren’t intended as accurate depictions in any way. I’ll also be demonstrating in WIP form some of my own local plein air landscapes inspired by the style of Turner.
