Always beautifully painted Alan. Top notch.

Love the sky on this watercolour.

There are times when extreme accuracy is called for, as in this commission, along with Sandon Hall, both done for Lord Harrowby who was 90 at the time, and would not have wanted an impressionist style painting. Not enjoyable in the least and all a bit twee I agree, but it just happens to be one of those attractive pubs. The cheque was most acceptable though, so well worth the effort.

Watercolour on Arches 300lb. This privately owned 1906 Grade11 listed coaching Inn lies at the heart of the village and forms part of the 400 acre Sandon Estate. This was another commissioned work by the Late Lord Harrowby which was equally as challenging as my painting of Sandon Hall. This was the only pub in England to remain closed on a Sunday, the Earl deciding that he didn’t want his estate workers and tenants going drinking after leaving church, luckily there was another fine hostelry just a 5-minute bike ride away at The Hollybush Inn at Salt! The new Earl decided to rescind this rule back in the late 1970’s.
