DOODLE pic...to remind you, the theme of this Doodle is 'people and animals'. I haven't had much time recently, now that the better weather has arrived I've been doing lots of jobs outside...and at my age they take longer than they used to. However, I try to do something artwise everyday, even if it's a very quick sketch. So this doodle has come in handy, it being nothing more than a bunch of quick sketches. I've added a Cleopatra type with her lion cub, a camel with it's handler, and I've completed the border that's supposed to represent a vine. Bits want tidying up. I now have to decide what I'm going to do with the various blank spaces, I could fill them with more drawings. Having photographed it to show here, I was able to try something in photoshop...I selected all the black spaces and filled them with colour (a very quick job in photoshop). I wanted to see how the drawing looked with a coloured background. At first, I tried several different patches of colour...that didn't look right...but ONE colour as the background looked fine to me. I may go that way with it...I'll paint the colour. Here's where I am so far...
I was able to finish this today. Not the best doodle I've done, but it's OK.
Thanks for the interest Syd. I confessed at the start of this to being someone who like to 'hop from one thing to another'....I know most people like to stick to one project at a time. Anyway, I'll be working on SAD SONG next, and will post something.
I've done another pic for the Sad Song group idea. I've not had much time lately. I'm slowing down these days, and have been altering our garden in the hope of reducing the amount of maintenance required. That, plus a few other outside jobs has cut down my drawing/painting time. Here it in progress... The same process as before...simple outline drawing, then painting parts almost to a finish...which enables me to work on parts while other parts dry. This is it finished, more line work, and the background treated in similar style to the other pictures, so that they gel as a group. I say it's finished but when I have the whole group done, I may make a few adjustments.
I was able to do another picture in my SAD SONG group today...the one middle bottom. Two more to go. I'll take a break for a while. Just got some Mars Lumograph pencils that were referred to in Daveyboyz's thread. Apparently they give solid blacks without the 'shiny' look that some pencils have (including the Derwent pencils I've been using). So I'd like to play with them for a while. Below is where I am with the SAD SONG idea, this is how they'll be laid out in my frame...6 x 4 pics.
Wonderful expressions Lew.
Thanks Sid, only two more to go and then...happiness reigns.
Another pic from the Sad Song series. A group of old boys playing cards in a corner. This began as usual, faint pencil lines to outline where everything goes...ovals for the heads and hands, tube shapes etc...no detail. When reasonably happy that it's OK the drawing starts in 01 waterproof black pen. Not great detail, enough to show it might work. Pencil rubbed out to avoid them showing through pale colours later. Not everybody likes music in pubs, these old boys would rather the band took their sad songs elsewhere. Although one is taking the opportunity to look at his mates cards. Background washes put in as before. Figures not touched, I'll work on them painting almost to a finish, moving from one part to another, anywhere where I can put my hand down on a dry spot. We're out today, so no more work on this. But forecasters are promising us a wet thundery weekend, so maybe I'll get all the pics for this group done.
Hey Carole, nice to see you posting here. Lewis, this is coming along nicely.
Thanks Carole, Margaret and Syd for your interest and encouragement. I have to finish the 'card players' pic (above), and then there's just one more to do. I'm hoping to get them done over the weekend. Lew.
I've completed the picture of my three old card players. Just one more to go...I'll get on with that now I can see the finishing post. I've scaled it down to 6 x 4 inches, to see how it looks.
Just brilliant and fun.
