Wow, Brian. That's so good, the changes to the sky look just great (and I thought the old sky was good). This is going to be a stunner. (It's almost worth having another go at Acrylics or oils, after seeing the way you've been able to change things.) Lew.
Thanks a lot, Lew, for the very encouraging comments. Try, try and try again is fast becoming my motto. Once I got rid of the clutter it started to take shape, and the waves and swells began to look more realistic. I've just got back from my break in the North East to find the paint nice and dry (to the touch) so the bird will now fly in to claim its place. I must've used a year's supply of paint, linseed oil and white spirit with this one, but hey ho. Bri
Here's the finished version, which I've now placed in the gallery. Thanks to all for the amazing comments along the way. Bri
Like it very much Bri, bird looks amazing now. Will look and comment on the Gallery.
Thanks, Sandra, and thanks for the reply in the gallery. Really appreciate you commenting as the painting progressed. Bri
This is the final revision. I've made a few minor changes and have decide to leave it here for now. Here's a photo to give you the general feel of the scale of it all, and as you can see it's currently taking up a lot of room on our kitchen table. I'll move it once the deep edges have dried. Thanks again to everybody.
Super work, Brian. One of the best paintings I've seen this year. Lew
You have completely turned this around, from something you weren't at all happy with to a very good painting - and probably feel it's been a battle: but think how much you'll have learned from it!
Wow Brian it looks amazing! I do hope you are going to hang it on your wall!
Thank you very much indeed, Lew, Robert and Margaret, for the kind and supportive comments. Big compliment there, Lew. You could've blown me down with a feather. Much appreciated. That's exactly right, Robert, a battle it most certainly was but I did learn a hell of a lot. No kidding, and I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm particularly pleased that I put this in WIP because the feedback, advice and support was just what the doc ordered. It really did help. I have plans for it, Margaret, but my wife doesn't know yet. I have a big wall in my bedroom that is just screaming for a big painting. I've just got to find a way to convince Diane. Hang it up and hope for the best is probably my best chance. *lol* Best to all and thanks again Bri
Thank you very much, Sylvia and Marjorie, for dropping in again. Thanks for sticking with it. Appreciated. Yes, I'm much, much happier with this painting now, Sylvia. My whiskers are twitching. LOL You were the first to comment, Marjorie, and I still appreciate your suggestion to include more angles. Great advice there. Best to both Bri
I managed to get a better photo outside in normal daylight, without direct sun. It shows more detail and the colours are fairly true to real life. I've made no further additions or revisions btw. It's done and drying. Bri
