No matter how irksome one finds the serial multiposting brigade, they are unfortunately not breaking any rules, and hopefully the five a day was just a blip and not some rabbit hole in the site software. One also wonders how many of the 'let's get some free advertising' squad actually subscribe to The Artist or Leisure Painter? I can understand the frustration of those who by and large keep the site alive and interesting, but I would encourage you to keep on posting the good stuff. That is what keeps us aspiring amateurs coming back to the site. POL administrators take note. You currently have a site with a great mix of amateur and professional artists, and at the heart of the site is the Gallery - that's what we come to every day. It is, however, increasingly diluted by those who would appear to be seeking commercial benefit for free. Already some of the site stalwarts are questioning the value of posting good quality inspiring art. Allow the gallery to be strangled and the forum will wither, and once they have gone, then the community will stop using the site and what will you be left with? The site will still have value, you have plenty of other pages offering tips, competitions, guides and even adverting of courses, holidays and materials etc, but you will just be another site amongst many, with nothing to differentiate you.

Could I just ask to clarify something (and certainly not to cause controversy) ? Do the majority of folk asking for a one/two per day posting paintings sketches etc, limit, actually ever post post two per day on a regular basis themselves? Have any of them ever posted more than two, or even one every day, or say half-a-dozen per week? If not, what actually is the objection to others on an open site they are members of?
You see, even regularly having my own works rushed onto Page 3 or 4 in no time, and averaging a dozen posts per week ,I still wouldn't want to stop regular members from posting as they wish (commercial aspects observed of course). I'm noticing quite a few regulars seem to be missing right now and I'm wondering why? P.O is like a giant art class to me with a miscellaneous collection of painting lovers. Okay, some are professionals and paint for a living but, due mainly to the non-commercial nature of it all, generally it's been an easy-going and friendly coffee club atmosphere. It's definitely changing from that. I suppose I'm asking who is actually being punished and for what?

I think this problem has been going on for quite some time, if I remember correctly I bought up this problem about a year ago. I am sorry I have missed so many lovely art works but it is very difficult to keep up with them all, perhaps one day it will be sorted. I do try and comment when I can.. soon I hope :ermm:

I have found this an interesting discussion because although I a member of another site as well, I have not contributed for months due to the same problem. A few new members joined around the same time and totally take over the gallery every day. One day there were 17 out of 20 pieces of art work by the same 3 people on page 1 and were, to me, boring. I know from experience that there are quite a few really good artists on that site whose work I have always enjoyed, but in the past few months they are nowhere to be seen, so presumably feel as I do, that we are wasting our time.. I still look in to that site, and it is still going on.. I won't be contributing there any time soon.
I do look at this site as much as possible and take an interest in the forums where I personally, have found lots of good advice.

We now have an anonymous poster posting four a day, every day, and at the same time. He/she is a tremendous talent but I'm reluctant to comment, given that this sort tend to ignore even the most complimentary of critiques. It's as if there exists an aloofness about their attitude, a couldn't-care-less approach that I find quite distasteful. What does it take to simply say "Thank you very much".

My computer hub is on the fritz, it keeps losing the connection, so I haven't been able to use POL much for a few days. (Getting the hub fixed next week.) I've managed a few 'glimpses' into the forum before being cut off. It's getting HOT in here isn't it?
First of all...feel no qualms about posting 4 pics, Dixie...that's what the rules are. If it said 'one a week' that's what we'd be doing. I know it's irritating when you get batches of 4 postings close together. I comment on work I like, it seems a bit harsh not to because someone's posted 4 pics...these people are probably on the site for the same reasons I am...to see a variety of work, and hopefully have some comments on their own...which is interaction. That's why I joined.
How you comment, or even 'IF' you comment is entirely your business. But if you aren't commenting solely because people post 4 pics...is that a good reason???
A few snipes at digital always seem to be in vogue, don't they? Even when people describe their work as digital.
Tessag thinks reducing the permitted number of posts would improve quality, which she thinks is needed. Quality. Who decides what is quality....no...let's not go there. I'll admit that every-time I finish a picture I wonder about quality...I thought everyone did.
If I'd read this thread soon after joining (having made several 4-posts, as per the rules), I think I'd have pondered two things...don't post 4 pics...and... is this site the friendly, encouraging site I thought it was?
POL are looking into it, they will do something. Let's hope they don't introduce some form of quality control. Because that means...no, let's not go there. That won't happen.
.
So, in case any newcomers have strayed into the forum...welcome...4 a day posters as well. If I've liked your work I'll have commented, 'IF' you like mine I hope you have commented too. I think that's how the site is supposed to work.
Just my opinion,
LEW.
P.S. On the digital front, I'd like 207 cases of making art with digital media to be taken into account at my trial. It's just another type of medium, and POL allows that too.
