Welcome to this week’s Inspiration from Artists , there is a change to the artist featured this week as we are opening with a tribute to Paulette Farrell, who sadly recently passed away. If you would look at her gallery and and choose paintings you particularly like and if you wish make a comment as to why. On Wednesday Peter will introduce us to the artwork of Lionel Waldron .  Paulette Farrell, was a professional artist and posted her paintings on this site , I have always admired the figures she painted and tended to forget test she also did beautiful paintings of animal and birds etc.  RIP Paulette , I shall miss your beautiful paintings. I made a random selection as I found it difficult to select single ones . The first and last are my favourites.
Thought I’d post this from her website showing her at work, followed by some of my favourite paintings from her POL gallery.
A very tragic loss of a talent Paul. She certainly could express that feeling of high emotion and movement in sport. It must be heartbreaking for her family and those close to the artist but to know she had achieved so much, they must be very proud. Here are a couple I especially liked.
An immensely talented artist, and a tragic loss.  Her gallery is a delight.  Here's one I particularly like...
As a sports fan, cricket in particular, I really loved her work. Whilst there was a looseness to her style, her cricketers were instantly recognisable because she understood the difference in their stance, style, and the way they played the game. Looking through her website and PO gallery now, I realise just what a talent she had for painting and drawing such varied subject matter, from sporting people to delicate birds (with character!) and wonderful portraits.  I’m not sure how well she was known in the wider art world but she certainly deserves to be up there, and we are fortunate to have seen her work regularly here. She will certainly be missed. Incidentally, when you dip into someone’s gallery, is there a way of bringing more recent work to the top? It seems you are always taken back some years!

It is indeed a tragic loss, but thinking about her progress does provoke a rueful grin - because (before she changed her name) she showed here under another; I forget what it was.  Back then, her drawings were more than a touch deficient, as she recognized.  Somewhere or other, I still have the diagrammatic sketches I sent her to help with her understanding of anatomy, and more particularly volume of the head and figure - and then she zoomed off into the stratosphere; leaving some of us behind... She's right to describe herself as "self-taught", though; I certainly didn't teach her, just gave her a hint or two; and that IS self-taught - you pick your own curriculum, as it were - take advice and example where you can find it, and evaluate it according to your own judgement.  There are times though when I wish I could be as good as some of those I've helped to become better!   Still, we also serve.... Goodbye, Paulette - I was and always will be so proud of you.
Some of Paulette’s sketch’s from life, all beautifully done.
We are so sorry to hear this sad news. Paulette was a much-valued and respected member of Painters Online. We loved seeing her work in the gallery and as part of our TALP open exhibitions. She wrote a feature for us back in 2021 which can be seen here https://www.painters-online.co.uk/tips-techniques/water-mixable/articles/sports-art-how-to-paint-sports-figures-in-water-mixable-oils/ if you'd like to try painting a cricketer in Paulette's fabulous style.

Enough is enough from this poster - one John Gnidow, or similar.  He's been copying chunks of other people's posts and slipping in live links to, in the latest case, steroids - you wouldn't necessarily spot it if you didn't look carefully, and on this thread it was particularly disrespectful and unpleasant, so I've deleted the post and banned him.

If you go to the artists home page (click view full profile). When you go through to their gallery it is in date order. I notice if you go straight into their gallery using the search box it's all messed up.
