Here is Paul Browns' checklist for selling to commission taken from the March 2010 issue of Leisure Painter:

  • Agree a price with the client before you start
  • Agree what you are going to paint and the size of the picture
  • Listen to the requirements of the client and take notes
  • Be honest with what is required and how long it will take
  • Take a deposit in advance. This demonstrates that the client is serious
  • Send images of the commission in progress. This involves the client and makes sure you are on the right track
  • Be prepared to make changes if required
  • Take a picture of the finished painting for your records
  • Arrange delivery of the finished painting, in person if possible
