Here is Paul Browns' checklist for selling to commission taken from the March 2010 issue of Leisure Painter:
- Agree a price with the client before you start
- Agree what you are going to paint and the size of the picture
- Listen to the requirements of the client and take notes
- Be honest with what is required and how long it will take
- Take a deposit in advance. This demonstrates that the client is serious
- Send images of the commission in progress. This involves the client and makes sure you are on the right track
- Be prepared to make changes if required
- Take a picture of the finished painting for your records
- Arrange delivery of the finished painting, in person if possible
