Cley Mill, Norfolk by Andrew Bucknell

This is beautifully done, Andrew. Your "attempt" has been skillfully executed, windmills aren't easy! You seem to have achieved precision, but have retained a lovely soft delicate look to it. A super watercolour.

Windmills certainly aren't easy - and the most difficult part is those blessed sails: I think here that they're not yet quite right, and that's because while the majority of the painting is carefully and meticulously done, there is a looseness about the sails which might have worked in a generally looser painting but doesn't quite come off in this one. This is especially true of the lower sail, on the left - I would be inclined to rub or wash out some of it, and just "tidy up" those lines, so that parallels really are parallel - it only need be done very lightly: the lines could be much finer than they are, but need to be in the right place. I'm sure you've already sweated buckets of blood over the damn' things, but I do believe a deep breath and further effort would pay off.

I would like to comment, not so much on Andy's painting, which I think is lovely & would be very pleased if I could produce something like this. I wish to comment on Robert Jones comment. I think it's brave of Robert to critique the painting in this way & after reading his comment think that he is quite right, although I had not noticed this previously. I certainly welcome constructive criticism & find it very helpful. After all painting is really about seeing. People find it very easy to say nice things. Not so easy to suggest how it could be improved. So well done to both of you.

The buildings are so well depicted Andy and there's so much complexity in the drawing, it's an impressive piece. The point Robert raised hadn't jumped out at me, but looking more closely I can see what he means.Personally sometimes when I've spent along time on a painting it can be hard to see it objectively; I find that when I see them on the screen on this site I suddenly see something that is obviously not quite right, which I hadn't noticed before.

This is a well painted watercolour, full of light, well done.

I had a look at the real thing this afternoon, and the actual sails don't look quite right! However, without dwelling any more on one part of it, I think it is a lovely painting and you have captured that certain light that is so much part of the north norfolk coast.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time and showing the interest to comment. I really appreciate it.
