Succulents (iPad Version)

Succulents (iPad Version)

Hi Christine, I feel that they both have their own characteristics, very different. Watercolour is my preferred medium, but that's because I can't do iPads! ;o))

Nice one too Christine. As Carole says, they both have their individual characteristics. Overall, I prefer the colours in the first version as there is a little more subtle tonal variation in the leaves, and I do think that the colour of the support lends a lot to the picture too, That said, this is a lively image too!

Then again now I come to study this more closely, I can see quite a lot of tonal variation in it too. I like them both - just ignore me!!

Thank you Carole and Julie, I have to say that doing this version was a lot less stressful than the original!

Although they are both very good and quite beyond my own capabilities, I have to say that I do prefer this one. I have not long had my ipad so would be interested in hearing which app you used and how long it took.

Thank you Sian, I agree with you and prefer this version, I really enjoy my iPad painting and find it a lot more rewarding than other mediums. I use the Brushes app and it did take some getting used to but I think I have now got to grips with most of the possibilities. I find being able to zoom in to add detail very useful and also the fact that you can try different things until you are happy with the result. Sometimes I use the duplicate button so I have two (or more) oriignals and can try different things on each one. This painting took me about 2 hours but it can be anything from 2 to 5 hours. Keep experimenting and look forward to seeing more!

Thanks, Christine. I will practise. I particularly like the effect you got with the 'dot' brush on the edge of the succulents.

I must say that I prefer this one. It's so clean and beautiful and of course I like blues and purples. There is also something graceful in the leaves and petals. You are so good with your iPad now Christine and I'm seriously envious!

Thank you Satu, I must say the iPad has opened a whole new world of possibilities to me, I love it!

Thanks for your advice, Christine, especially about the duplicate as I managed to lose one. I have now really enjoyed looking through your gallery, as I have done before, and feel inspired to have another go on ipad. It is so nice, too, to store the pictures on the device instead of under the bed or in the bin!

Hi again Christine - Just sitting here looking through the Mark Hearld book and all I can say is 'Wow'! My fingers are itching for a pair of scissors.

I posted an Acrylic version of this image yesterday and would be really interested to hear which you prefer. They both took roughly the same amount of time to paint.
