Gentle, almost resigned face. Good painting, although I wonder about the absence of the ear ... surely part of it would be in view.

Thank you again, Robert, You are right about the ear - it should be in view. I focus on purpose around a imaginary line: eye - hand, and let the rest not so narrative. I hesitated... ear, earring, hair, and finally left it as it is, because in fact in is impossible to see everything visually, if the accent is on the perception of the personality. What do you think?

Valia - this is so serene and wise - you capture expressions so well. Mary must be so very proud of this, and you! Sarah

A painting to be proud of. I love the calm colours the pose is beautiful - the eyes have it.

Thank you Sarah, thank you, Jeannette for your kind comments.

Beautiful sensitive expression. Expertly painted.

Hallo again; just to reply to your question, I think I'd have either included the ear or faded out the painting so that its absence wouldn't have been noticeable, but then I do have a somewhat obsessively accurate turn of mind, and it looks as though the others who have commented didn't think it important - so I should just ignore me, and do your own thing! I still liked the painting, so it can't matter to me that much.

Carole, There are few moments in our lives we are completely happy - reading your comment was one of those for me. Thank you.

Thank you again, Robert. I don't think I "should ignore" your opinion. I accept it - it may help in future paintings to consider it. Knowledge is never harmful or offensive, but a gift.

Gentle and so sensitive, serene expression. I had not noticed the missing ear until it was mentioned, and then when I looked again i wondered how I had missed it at first viewing. but you are absolutely right...On my second look I missed the beauty of the line of hand and eye and was simply looking at a missing ear space and nothing more.....

Thank you, Ruth - in the original painting the ear is not missing, but hidden by some fragments of very soft and light hair, which eventually you can see here at the photo. I suppose that is the reason most of the artists did not see anything wrong. I just didn't put any accent over there, tried several ideas, but as you've notice it pull the eyes toward the edge.
