Lovely watercolour Terry, I prefer this one!

I'm no expert but having compared this with its predecessor, I think the comments were useful and you've produced a lively, interesting and harmonious image.

Cracked it - that's all the tree needed - really turned out a great piece

It's worked very well! As has been said, it has a more lively feel to it.

I think it has made a difference, in that it's introduced a touch of light: of course you have to be VERY careful that you don't destroy the tonal contrast. Your changes have worked but I liked your original painting: the point here is - you can go on and on and on refining a painting, changing it. lightening it, adding tonal contrast to it; but I liked your first painting; I felt it worked; and please don't work your pictures to death. You haven't. This is lovely, and sharp, and clean. But you know when you've painted a good picture - be confident in your own judgement.

PS - don't, if I may suggest this to you, remove your previous versions: leave us, and YOURSELF, to judge them in relation to later postings. You and we will learn from that.

I think your changes have improved the painting Alan, well done for experimenting. But as Robert has said, it is your painting, you are the best judge.

Thank you all for your very welcome comments. Thanks particularly Robert for your thoughtful points about not overworking a picture. You're right - better to start again. Not sure though that I shall ever be confident in my own judgement!

I submitted this picture a couple of days ago but in response to valid comments, I've tried to tone down the left-hand tree by wetting and blotting out some of the dark Burnt Umber/ Prussian Blue mix and then running in a bit of Raw Sienna to add some light. Not sure that it has made much difference but I'd value any comments!
