Lovely sense of light in this one Terry, good sky and the shadows work well too. The only little suggestion I could make, is to lift a little colour from the left edge of the tree on the left, to show the light hitting it, as you have for the right hand ones.

Yes - my kind of watercolour and so well executed - do agree with Stephen about the left tree - it is a little dramatic.

Lovely tree's giving nice upright images against the rest of the painting, love the buildings and the grass verges, that left tree could have done with some highlight but the shadows are really good and add interest to the solid grey of the road

I like the strong tonal contrasts - the delicate yet strong colour of the building and the way the light just hits the top of the wall. While this is Somerset, it's very typical of countryside where I come from, and in the south of England around the New Forest - I almost certainly haven't been here, but I feel as though I have.

A quintessentially English scene captured in quintessential English style in the q.... English medium - watercolour. No-nonsense, bracing and evocative.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I agree that the left-hand "black" tree needs toning down - though the original is not as dark as the photograph suggests. I generally try not to fiddle with a paintng but I shall see how the Bockingford paper responds to a bit of TLC and, perhaps, submit the result. But only if it works!

Terry I would not touch it. The dark tones emphasize the brightness. It is a beautiful watercolour for your very fine gallery.

Thanks for your comments Pat. I read them just after I'd finished modifying the original! Not sure it was such a good idea but I've submitted the new version anyway!

Terry - hadn't read this when I commented on your latest posting: you make very good points, ie you'll change it but only if it works: that's absolutely right (as you very obviously know). If in doubt, I would always paint a new picture: and leave the one I'd already painted to speak for itself - a painting is only a work in progress to the extent that you wish it to be: you then reach a point at which you can say and desire to say no more. Then you start a new painting. Keep submitting new versions: therein lies fulfilment and, if you ever get there, peace.
