Quite like this Sylvia, I like my pen and ink and appreciate any kind of line work and I think your little work really works in its simplicity, you have described the wall with the minimum of lines and it works really well and even though the rails are the focal point they do not for me swamp every thing else, nice one.

I agree 100% with Malcolm, Sylvia this is a real beauty, love it!

Thank you Malcolm....having posted I think I should have done a bit more work first to enhance the far wall. Yes the railings do swamp a bit now you mention it & your comment re focal point is also useful as wish I had put steps more to one side. Will do more before adding wash & post final result. Wow...thank you Mia...very kind of you to comment :)

This is my kind of pen work Sylvia. The right amount of detail, especially on the far wall, too much detail there would have made it compete with the nearer wall....for me. The railings and steps are spot on as is the hinted at grass etc....really like it!

Thanks Fiona...much appreciated!

I think you misunderstood me Syilvia, I ment the steps were fine and they were the focal point but did not overpower the rest which was good, they are on a slant which leads the eye to other parts, I did not mean they swamped everything else. The whole thing worked.

Lovely pen work Sylvia

Beautiful little Drawing Sylvia your tones are there.

Thanks again Malcolm....yep...have decided am happy with it... Many thanks Dermot & Carole..... All this over one little drawing but I really enjoyed sitting outside doing it ....first time I have done something I really like in ages....now for the wash :)!

Had great Alpha painting holiday in Wye Valley with tutor Paul Weaver ....I resorted to more sketching than painting as wanted to get as much info as poss to take home and work on as am sooo slow painting en plein air .....step too far for me at the mo methinks as get despondent as not happy with the result. Will try again under my own steam! Already realise need to add more light & dark to my sketches so back to the drawing board....will add w/c eventually...

About the Artist
Sylvia Pawson

I have attended a weekly art class for the last 18 months and absolutely love it & have surprised myself with results on occasion but am still very much a novice. Only used watercolour and pen and pencil so far and have found I love to sketch. I find a great deal of inspiration from the work…
