The East Staffordshire Ramblers often walk around the grounds of Calke Abbey in South Derbyshire. There are several tunnels that were apparently made so the owners didn't catch sight of any servants carrying out their business! This shows 3 of our ramblers emerging from a very long dark and damp tunnel that would have been used by horse and cart to transport coal, beer etc. The tunnel is stone at the bottom and bricks at the top. I love the contrast this makes and the change in lighting as people exit.
