The view is from a pier looking back at the lighthouse. There is a plaque saying that the first enemy shell of WW1 landed and destroyed the house to the right of the current row of houses. The atmosphere changes considerably depending on the weather and light. This painting is perhaps extreme but I think it captures the atmosphere and history of this part of the North East.
