Wren - work in progress

I can't wait to see the final. It looks great already!! Beautiful detail.

Coming on really well. I think I'd fade out the background a bit more, it rather overpowers the branch as it is just now.

Thanks for your lovely comments on my latest posting. Believe it or not, the photo I took it from was taken either late last year or early this year and it was a glorious sunny day so, yes, the water is reflecting the colour of the sky, lets hope for many more to come!! I obviously missed this painting of yours last week or I would have certainly commented on it. The little wren is expertly painted and looks good perched on the lichen. Looking forward to seeing the finished article but it already looks pretty perfect to me.

How lovely can't wait to see the finished work...wrens are so hard to catch on photo arn't they so quick

Steve I cannot believe I have missed your work. The wren is so beutiful. Wonderful textures on the bark of the tree. Just smashing. thank you so much for the info on the oil pastels and your comment much appreciated.

what a clever bunny! i love your work - i wish i was half as good! yes, my painting was taken from the marine lake wall. if you know west kirby you know what wonderful sunsets it has and i was walking round the lake when i looked back and saw the reflections in the windows of those very boring but expensive flats. i've not heard of a couple of the types of oil pastel you mentioned tho i assume if i wanted to try them i could get them on tinternet. i was surprised that you found an acrylic base difficult to manage. I really put a lot of texture on the mountboard but consequently have to live with the marks.

Steve, many thanks for your generous and one of the kindest compliments I have had. (Magnolia). In searching to thank you I found your portfolio on 'Wildlife Stuff'. Didn't know that you were proficient at birds and animals too. I like this little wren, have you finished it yet?

yeah i finished this one but stupidly didn't photo it before it went to it's new home, in the end i simply darkened the back leg to put it in shadow, i tried adding a few branches in photoshop just to see how it would look but couldn't find a composition i was happy with ...once mounted and framed it looked less 'Lost' than it does here....the size of the mount was such that the eye of the bird ended up being pretty much on the top left golden third intersection and i think this nailed the comp better than adding additional details.

3 quarters done, just need to finish of the feet and the lichen covered branch. I might also add a twig coming in from the top left or top right to further knock back the background. The background was done using Neocolour II crayons and lots of finger blending (no water) and the wren was painted in with acrylic. I'll post the finished piece when i finally have time to finish it off. It measures 12" x 9"
