What an idyllic spot - I can understand why the area inspired Wordworth. Lovely sunny painting with excellent fresh greens.

many thanks Thea for your kind remarks.

Stephen the left hand trees are nice and loose with most attractive colours. The house is nicely put back in the middle plane. I wonder if the hedges on the right could be cut back a bit or indeed remove the forward one and put a nice shadow across the near foreground.

Thanks for your thoughts Alan, I'm not too keen on the hedges either, I suppose when working from someone elses photo, there is a danger of copying too literally!

Excellent result using only a brush Stephen. I find myself agreeing with Alan ref the hedges....perhaps another try without them?!Lol.

Thanks Fiona, I do need to do something with those hedges! I don't usual paint the same subject twice as I find it difficult to get enthusiastic the second time.

From a 'found' photo of Wordsworth's lovely old home in Grasmere. I went to the art group last night and was talking to a new member who normally paints in oils but wants to try watercolour. She said she had to practice her pencil drawing as she did not draw with her oils. I did point out that she was drawing but with a brush and that she could do the same with watercolour. I bravely (foolishly? Said I would would draw this one with a brush. I did find it a bit tricky with the house but thought the result was perhaps a little fresher?

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
