Brought back nice memories Stephen, the view of Dunford Road and Hollowgate. We lived in Holmfirth for 15 years, a lovely area.

Excellent sketch Stephen, and yes it was a lovely day. You’ve captured the sunlight well.

Many thanks Marjorie, glad you recognise the place! Did Compo come racing down that hill once?

Many thanks Tessa. Must try a watercolour of it.

My son, aged 15, was in the Holme Valley Wheelers. With his friend, he was in an episode of Last of the S. W. when Compo and friends came down in a go cart from Holme village. It took all day to film and there were " refreshments" available from the Fleece ( pub). My son and his pal took advantage of course - who wouldn't, aged 15?

Just had a thought Stephen - have you ever visited the Holmfirth Art Exhibition? It's usually on in July and well worth a visit. I had some paintings in a few years ago.

Many thanks for your comments Marjorie, I used to love Compo and friends adventures on tv. We had tea and cake in the cafe from the series, opposite the church on Monday. I did go to the art week once a few years ago, someone from our art group had a couple of paintings in it. I was quite impressed.

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
