Royton Park, Spring by Stephen Slater

Royton Park, Spring

Another ink and Inktense sketch, Royton is a small town between Oldham and Rochdale. My dentist is there and after an appointment I thought I would try a sketch in the park. I found the interlocking buildings quite hard to draw. The clock tower is on the old town hall, now the library, sorry to ramble on!

No, it is nice to have an explanation of your art. And the new format allows us a large space to comment in.

It's always interesting to read what goes on in the production of a painting, Stephen, so please do keep rambling! This is lovely, I really like the looseness of the piece, with accents in all the right places.

I too enjoy your thoughts and observation Stephen. This is a really lovely one

Clean and lovely Stephen. Gotta love the colour on those buildings on the right. You've done a great job. Thanks for the story behind the painting.

Many thanks everyone for your kind comments.

I like the line and wash feel . I have no idea what intense is Stephen perhaps you can enlighten me . I like the painting though .

Thanks for your comments Dennis. Inktense is made by Derwent (the pencil company). They come in pencil form and in little blocks. They are a bit like watercolour pencils but are more transparent when you add water to them. They look a bit like ink hence the name. I find them easy to use and they go well with pen work. I use them with a water brush to save taking a watercolour box and a brush and water container, when out sketching. I think there is a video on the Derwent website that shows how to use them.

Great sketch Stephen - especially like the pen and wash style.

Many thanks Dympna for your encouraging words, much appreciated.

Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
