I do like the simplicity of this one - it works so well Stephen

I love the strong tones in this one Stephen. It's very much my style. More of the same please.

Many thanks Helen, Michael and Chris for your kind remarks. I do enjoy quick, simple paintings, I suppose i'm a bit lazy really but the 'less is more' idea does often work, when I add detail I often go astray. Although I am a great admirer of Rupert C's and Alan G's loely detailed watercolours.

I do admire how you can swap between mediums Stephen with excellent results. I'm of the same mind as you regarding the 'simple paintings' and I know, in my case, it's down to laziness! Love the sun light in this one and how you have kept the colours to a minimum, which work very well.

Very well done. If you are working from a photo, the dark is unnaturally dark. Perhaps that is why it looked wrong. However, this is where artistic licence comes in. Those shadows are not the important part of the painting!

Good point Gudrun, it's so easy to treat the photo as gospel is it not? I quite liked the way the tree shadows pointed to the centre left of the picture, which gave me the idea of adding the figures.

I really like the warmth of the autumn tints as they give this painting a beautiful glow. The variation in the green of the grass works very well too. Great work.
