It doesn't seem to matter what medium you work in Stephen, your greens are always great! Always variable and always believable, not easy to achieve. Love it!

I agree with Fiona, very versatile, love the reflections

And it is lovely, Stephen. It has a softness typical of pastel and which I just cannot seem to achieve.

Many thanks Fiona, Glennis and Ruth for your lovely comments, much appreciated.

You get a whole different look with pastels to watercolour. There is a smooth softness and a rich denseness of colour which is most attractive. I agree with Fiona over your greens - lovely variety and nice light in the trees. Also great colourful reflections. I think this has worked really well.

Thank you Thea for your kind remarks, I also like the rich colour you can get with pastel, a bit messy though!

Your paintings have a real tranquility about them, Stephen. This one is superb - there's such a quiet restful air about it.

Thanks once again Seok, I enjoyed using pastel again.

I watched a demo at the art group the other evening, it was given by a local pastelist. I haven't used my pastels for a while, so I thought I would have a try from an old photo of Ashford. I've painted this in watercolour in the past and have to say it's a lot easier in pastel!

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
