Winter, Lydgate church,

I remember your watercolour of this Stephen and if you don't mind me saying, I prefer your oil version of it. The almost silhouette effect of the church and buildings is a super contrast to the white of the snow. The added warmth of the foreground scrub brings it all together. May I ask if you prime your board with a coloured ground before you do a snow scene?

Many thanks, Rebecca, Michael and Fiona for your kind comments. Fiona, I just use the ready primed white board, perhaps I should try putting on a base colour?

Very nice scene Stephen :)

This is a seriously beautiful painting Stephen, you have managed to find a good colour for the snow and that is not easy. I normally put a base colour in all my paintings and I find that it helps with the overall tone. I like your gallery!

Have you tryed this 1 in watercolour?

Thanks for commenting Pauline, I posted a watercolour of this in April, in my 2012 portfolio, titled Lydgate church.

Cant find it,bet it looks good in watercolour.

Starkly beautiful, Stephen.

I think I posted a watercolour of this scene some time ago.
