Very apt at this moment in some parts of the country. I like it.

Lovely work Stephen and your wet in wet approach seems to really suit this snowy scene!

Many thanks Glennis and Ros for your encouraging comments. I think I must be quite a lazy artist and I try to work as quickly as I can and often I find this approach works best (for me at least).

Works so well but makes me shudder a bit - I do agree about speed painting - someone called in yesterday and asked about sky and trees so I did a quick demo in less than 10mins which worked so well apart from a bit of unwanted colour run where I hadn't left sufficient time to allow washes to dry.

Thanks once again Michael for your comments. I'm off to Portugal for ten days so I won't be posting for a while. Will take my sketchbook and a few Inltense pencils, so I may have a few quick sketches to share.

Hope you have a great break Stephen

Have a lovely break Stephen, bring some sunshine back with you. I love this way of painting and I must be lazy too because that's how I prefer to work......quick and to hell with the results!!!

Really lovely Stephen! I must have a look what those Inktense blocks are about, they seem to work beautifully for you.

The loose approach really works - great sweeping shadows and a nice wintery feel.

Many thanks Fiona, Satu and Thea, I am on a computer in the hotel at the mo, could not stay away from P.O.L. for more than a week!

I posted a watercolour version of this scene some time ago. I thought I would try a quick 'wet in wet' version with a few Inktense blocks. I think I prefer this 'looser' approach.

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
