On my to try list Stephen , this is a good result !

A lovely peaceful scene. Interesting technique, I wonder what size this is?

Many thanks Denise and Lesley for your kind remarks. If you are interested Lesley, the artist is called Paul Brotherton, he is quite local to me (Manchester area) and has a website. He used to paint in watercolour in a very detailed way (which I admired) but now paints in a very loose and sometimes abstract way. He encouraged us to try to paint in a freer way and try different media and techniques. He painted his demo on watercolour paper as he does not like acrylic paper. This effort is on watercolur paper 12'' x 9", I also think the watercolour paper is better than the acrylic.

Lovely picture. I like palette knife-and-acrylics. It seems to work very well as you can make a good range of marks.

Thanks Shirley, I agree, the texture seems to appear by itself!

A few weeks ago an artist came to the art group and demonstrated painting quick acrylic landscapes, using a painting knife, on watercolour paper. We were set a project to try and do something similar. This is my quick effort, which was quite fun to do and I quite like it for a change.

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
