Commiserations on the passing of Mr Fluff - who looks just a little fierce in this painting. Rarely do pastels, so haven't used Clarefontaine Ingres paper, but it looks - from the grain in this photo - to be a bit of a swine to work on. As for the white whiskers: well, you're immeasurably more experienced in this field than I am, but have you tried fixing the area, and then working over it with conté white crayon? Fools, you see, rush in where angels fear to tread - I'm sure if it was as simple as that, you'd have done it. You have a powerful memorial to your tarty old Tom here, anyway.

I'm glad he looks fierce. He used to bite my ankles if he wanted to be fed and he used to bite my hand if he wanted to be stroked!

He sounds a great character Linda. Its a lovely picture to remember him by. Love your choice of background colour. It really brings out his colouring well :)

This is a predominantly pastel picture (with a little pen and ink) on Clarefontaine Ingres paper. The Derwent pastel pencils that I used were too waxy to draw the whiskers over, so I had to compromise and give him black whiskers instead of the white ones. I had to have Mr Fluff (aged 16) put down just before Xmas, because of a number of health problems and 6 months later, I have finally immortalised him. However, he was quite a tart and used to visit all the neighbours, pretending to be unloved and ill-fed. that's cats for you - no loyalty!
